Opt for the most expensive room type and you will be surprised with the room. Loved my stay here and will want to stay again at the same place when in Auckland. The best part about the hotel was the location and its easy access to the most happening places..

Very nice place to stay in the city highly recommended. Place is very conveniently located from all major tourist attractions. Apartments are well equipped and well maintained. It has subway nearby and omega car rental to rent a car just opposite to the apartments and interlink bus service has a bus stop just at the hotel.

We chose this hotel based on location and value. We had a good view from 24th floor and a comfortable stay. We used the gym and we had a couples spa treatment which was fantastic. Unfortunately we only had a couple of days here before we had to return to Scotland but would definitely stay again.

We had requested for parking facility. However, upon reaching they informed that they have not received such a request and cannot provide us with parking. Hence, we had to park in a public parking space and spend additional 45 NZD. Secondly, they have said that there is free WiFi available, on the website. We couldn’t connect or use the WiFi.

Location, facilities and easy access to Queens Road are key factors. The hotel is reasonable distance from my work place. If you are a morning walker, park next door is excellent. The rooms are big and the facilities are very good for a business travellers.

Booked a stay at The Surrey with very short notice and was lucky to be welcomed to stay. On arrival we were told where parking was available, handed out room key and left to park and find our room. This may not have been a problem had the hotel been one building instead of three conjoining. After entering each and not finding out room number we found a staircase leading to the floor on which our room was situated. Upon getting to the top, with our bags and suitcases in tow, we found the entrance door locked. Back down the stairs it was and we were left to find another way in. When finally we got to our room the keycard would not unlock our rooms door. I left my friend in charge of our luggage and set off to find reception. I was greeted warmly, given another card and sent off. Once again this card did nothing and back to reception I went. Finally the receptionist and repairman followed to our room where the batteries needed changing in our door lock system, after which worked fine. After a five and a half hour drive from Hawkes bay we decided to rest a while and watch T.V only to find that we received a total of five channels and three of which were hardly viewable through the static. Giving up on this we decided to check out the facilities. The 'gym' was little more than the size of our room crammed with equipment in a manner which made the gym atmosphere unappealing. The pool was a small indoor pool surrounded on each side by other stayers rooms and closed for use at 9pm due to this. We had trouble finding the spa as you have to exit the building and walk below a staircase where a shed has been built that houses the spa pool. The door was locked so we went to the reception to get a key. We were told each user has a limited half hours use of the spa. The bar was typically priced, the staff were kind and friendly. The bar sported a television playing sports and a large balcony which allowed smokers a place to do so. Each time we went past there were people using this facility and it had a nice atmosphere. It may seem as though I'm giving a negative review but all in all I enjoyed our stay here. I am thankful that they offer free parking to guests, that it is in close proximity to town and that the staff are all very kind. I would reccommend the Surrey to others but would not do so as if trying to sell it. Overall rating from me 6/10

A hotel experience is not limited to the architecture and convenience of the building, how the guests are treated is the most important factor. The front staff was so unhelpful and difficult to talk to that I was just about ready to leave my money that was already paid for by me for the room and go book another one. But somehow we checked in but guess what even though we extended the booking and paid for one more day (70$ more than the last day) front office didn't realize that and actually came in after unlocking the door claiming that they "knocked" twice. Please I would suggest you to rather stay on the footpath than at this place.
