In operations since April 24, 2007, Mihin Lanka is one of the leading budget airlines of Sri Lanka. Mihin Lanka made it possible for the citizens of Sri Lanka to avail air tickets at low air fare. The code sharing agreement with national flag carrier, Sri Lankan Airlines, enables Mihin Lanka to provide schedule services to many destinations around the world. Mihin Lanka was incorporated by the Sri Lankan government in October 2006, but commenced its operations in April 2007. With two leased Airbus A320, the airlines offered flights from Colombo to routes like Tiruchirapalli, Thiruvananthapuram, Bodhgaya, Bangkok, Singapore and Maldives in India and the Middle East. However, within a year of its launch, the airlines lost its aircrafts to their respective owners in Turkey and Bulgaria. Thus, Mihin Lanka was forced to cease all operations in April 2008. On 1 January 2009, Mihin Lanka resumed its operations with a leased 19-year old A320 aircraft that flew to Dubai. It was later replaced by an ex Air Deccan Airbus A320. Mihin Lanka purchased its first own aircraft, an Airbus A321, in December 2010. Post the delivery of its third aircraft in August 2012, Mihin Lanka extended its services to destinations like Bangkok and Singapore.

Mihin Lanka started its operations in April 2007 with two Airbus A320 aircraft leased from India. However, after having lost both the aircrafts in 2008, the airlines leased another A320 in 2009 that was soon replaced by an ex Air Deccan Airbus A320, and later by an Airbus A320-200 that is still a part of the fleet. Besides the A320, the current Mihin Lanka fleet has an Airbus A321-200 aircraft that was purchased by the airlines in December 2010. A third aircraft, another Airbus A321, was added to the fleet in August 2012. The Airbus A320 can carry 180 passengers at a time while the A321 has a seating capacity of 210.
