Jetstar Asia is a Singapore based airline, which is a part of Jetstar Group, noted for serving passengers across the globe. Jetstar Asia was founded in the year 2004 and is managed by Newstar Holdings. The Singapore Company Westbrook Investments holds 51 percent of the share and Qantas Group owns remaining 49 percent. Jetstar Asia was established in 2004; six months after Jetstar Airways commenced its domestic operation in Australia. Post receiving the Air Operator's Certificate from the government, Jetstar Asia announced flights across seven routes within a 5-hour radius from Singapore. The airline’s inaugural flight took off in December 2004 from Singapore to Hong Kong, one of the three launch destinations besides Taipei and Pattaya. Services to Manila commenced in 2005; however, Shanghai, Jakarta and Surabaya remained out of reach. Amidst difficulties, Jetstar Asia gained approval for new routes like Cambodia and Phuket. In July 2005, Jetstar Asia merged with another Singaporean airline Valuair. Qantas repositioned its Jetstar ventures in Australia and Singapore in 2006 and thus, launched long-haul operations from Australia to six countries in Southeast Asia. By April 2008, Jetstar Asia had achieved profitability and there has been no looking back ever since. Today, the airline flies to over 25 cities across 14 countries.
