Visakhapatnam Airport History:
Earlier, when the Visakhapatnam Airport was under re-development phase, it saw low air traffic as it welcomed only one daily flight in the year 1999. But in the year 2009, the runway was extended from 6,000 ft to 10,500 ft that allowed aircraft such as Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 to land at the airport. In the same year, an instrument landing system was introduced which consequently allowed night landing facilities as well. Later, due to lack of night-landing facilities stalled the overall growth of the airport. After involving these improvements and facilities, the airport saw the arrival of new airlines which include JetLite and Air Deccan.
