Bhubaneswar Airport History
Bhubaneswar Airport, known as Biju Patnaik Airport, is the primary airport in the state of Orissa. The airport got its name from the former Chief Minister of Orissa, Biju Patnaik, who was a famous aviator as well as a freedom fighter. At present, it is a domestic airport but recently Chief Minister, Navin Patnaik has sought international tag for Bhubaneswar airport as with the completion of the on-going construction work, the airport can handle 1000 domestic passengers as well as 384 international passengers during the crest hours. The airport is approximately 3 km away from center of the city.

Terminal 1: The airport has a single terminal at present which is used for domestic purpose only. Currently, there are quite a good numbers of airlines such as Air India, IndiGo, Jet Airways, JetKonnect and Air India Regional which operate their flights to various parts of the country such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Port Blair, Bangalore, Hyderabad and many more.

Bus: The distance between the airport and bus stand is approximately 8 km. One can find good number of taxis as well as private buses which will take you to the airport from the bus stand. You will also find pre-paid booth to hire taxis from the airport.
Railways: The airport is also around 5 km away from the railway station. It will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes to reach the airport from the railway station. From the station, you can easily hire private cabs to reach the airport easily. From Cuttack Railway Station, the airport is almost 26 km away.
Bhubaneswar Airport Authority
Biju Patnaik Airport is maintained by the Airport Authority of India (AAI). The authority ensures to provide top class amenities to the passengers. Currently, the construction of the new terminal is going under AAI. Bhubaneshwar airport authority is now introducing new services like larger parking space where another 10 luxury coach buses and 400 taxis can be parked.
