Mangalore Airport History:
Bajpe Airport which is now called as Mangalore Airport is a domestic and customs airport, located in the city of Mangalore. This airport was inaugurated by the Former Prime minister of Independent India, Jawaharlal Nehru. He arrived by the DC-3 Dakota aircraft on 25 December 1951. This airport was named Bajpe Aerodrome initially and remained that way till the new name was allotted. International flights from this airport started in 2006 with Air India Express which takes off to Dubai from here. There are various flights that run from here to the Middle East, Sothern India and Western India and connect major cities of the various states in India.

Terminal 1 - Domestic: Domestic flights run from Mangalore to six major cities of India. Regular flights are scheduled from here to Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Surat. Flight operators which operate at this airport are Air India, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and Spice Jet. Domestic customs also operate from this terminal.
Terminal 2 - International: International terminal of Mangalore airport is located nearby the old terminal. This terminal run flights from India to the Middle East. Mangalore airport authority was established in 1949. Till today, the authority maintains all the services in regular fashion. Recently, a new airport terminal was launched under this authority which runs international flights to the Middle East. This new terminal accompanies customs services which are maintained by the Mangalore airport authority to keep a check on the imported items. Services which fall directly under the airport authority include Airway traffic control, security surveillance, baggage services, vendors and tenders and customer services. All these services are sustained and maintained by Mangalore airport authority to facilitate future developments of the Airport.
