A Thrilling Date with Wildlife

Driving through the rugged terrain of Ranthambhore—once a private hunting ground for the royalty of Jaipur—makes for a thrilling experience for anyone who enjoys being lost in the wilderness. One of the big highlights of the trip for me was to be able to share the experience with like-minded wildlife enthusiasts. As we drove through the national park in a 4x4 5-seater jeep, the sight of the lakes with crocodiles swimming about freely made for a hair-raising sight. The safari ride was divided in two halves—the morning and evening safari. While we spotted the sambar deer, crested serpent eagles and nilgais aplenty during the first outing, I was a little disappointed to have missed spotting the royal tiger that the national park is known for. That only added to my motivation to return for another trip post lunch, and this time, not too long into our journey, we managed to spot a tiger at a distance. It was a fleeting sight, but one that will stay with me for a long time to come.

Exploring the Highlights of the Pink City

The first day-and-a-half of this 4-day trip was spent exploring the regal city of Jaipur. It made for an action-packed day of sightseeing where I, along with the group of fellow travellers, visited the City Palace Museum, the famous Hawa Mahal and the iconic Jantar Mantar. The best part was a cycling trip organised on morning of Day 2 of our stay in Jaipur, before we embarked on a 4-hour long road journey to Ranthambore. A visit to the 10th century Ranthambore Fort was another experience worth cherishing.
