Want To Go ?

Well, July is coming, kids have their summer holidays in full spate and what you need most to escape the summer heat is a nice, long holiday.

While India does offer some excellent getaways from the city limits, we’ve got some great spots you can hit a few time zones away. Make the most of the holiday season and give yourself a break from the humdrum routines to take a nice vacay in one of these 5 international cities this July.

Cancun, Mexico

Cancun is a bundle of contradictions. Tourists could be forgiven – at first glance – for thinking of it as a party town. This is thanks largely to the bevy of discos, salsa clubs, glitzy restaurants and those lovely white sandy beaches there. But step away from the hotel zone for a change and you’ll come across the local flavours of the city proper, and see how Mexicans carry on with their daily lives here. Filled with museums paying homage to Mexico’s Mayan history, you’ll find a number of museums such as the Museo Maya de Cancun here. Once you’ve had your fill of museums, hop on a bus towards Isla Contoy – a beautiful national park bursting with birds and wild animals indigenous to the region. Or you could venture up the north to Isla Holbox and swim with the whale sharks!

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Ah, Rio!

The place of sambas and good living is basically one big celebration compressed in a city. From the tropical landscapes of the Tijuca rainforest to the renowned beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana, to the great Rio festival, and of course, the great samba and funk parties they throw here – Rio de Janeiro is definitely a place to let your hair down. More so, if you’re a football enthusiast. The cariocas (residents of Rio) definitely know how to live things up a notch and mix fun and activities, so do make sure you go cycling along the beaches, sailing upon the Baia de Guanabara and the beach parties they throw across the city’s glittering coastline.

Budapest, Hungary

Nestled along the Danube River, with the Buda Hills straddling its western frontiers – Budapest has become one of the most popular tourism destinations in Europe, and with good reason. From economical rates of travel to the Baroque, Art Noveau and Neoclassical styles of architecture, to hot springs, history and the romantic views from its bridges – there are loads of reasons for you to fall in love with Budapest. Make sure you don’t stick to Indian restaurants while you’re there – Hungarian cuisine is said to be one of the three best culinary experiences across the world (with the French and Chinese styles).

Nice, France

Most tourists associate Nice with its lovely beaches – and they are deservedly the highlights of this sunshine city. But there’s more to Nice than its bewitching seaside. Venture within the city quarters to the Old Town, fall in love with its wondrous architecture and typical French markets – and soak in the Riviera vibes at any one of its number of excellent restaurants and cafes. The holiday town for the French will not disappoint you anywhere – except maybe the traffic.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Indians love travelling to the South-East Asian destinations with good reason – it’s relatively nearby, cheap and offers the best of modernity mixed with the Oriental heritage. Known mostly for its food, Kuala Lumpur is a marvel in terms of the skyline it offers – boasting metropolis modernity enmeshed with Malay, Chinese and Indian influences. Step away from the malls to explore Kuala Lumpur’s streets sizzling with bazaars, stalls and hangout spots – the city literally breathes verve and fire, coming most alive during the night hours.

So, where will you be going to this July? The megamalls of Malaysia, the riverbank cafes of Budapest or the carnivals of Rio de Janeiro? Hard to pick? We feel you.
