FESTIVALS & EVENTS
I was going to Melbourne. Ah, the joy! But, as I was preparing my must-do list for Melbourne, I felt like I might just end up writing a short novel. Twenty pages and still not finished. Someone suggested permutations and combinations. I had to juggle between the number of days I had in Melbourne, the economic constraints (oh how I pray everyday for some philanthropic billionaire to adopt me) and the number of things to do, see and experience in Melbourne. So here’s my final list, you might concur with a few.
How big do you think an aquarium can get? Well, it cannot get any bigger than Melbourne’s 2.2 million litre Oceanarium! Take a deep plunge into this wonderland of colourful bright sea creatures and enjoy the moments of encounter with them. Explore and live in the worlds such as Antarctica, Weird & Wonderful, River to Reef and Sharks Alive. Some of the distinguished creatures that you have a chance to get up and close with include Sandbar Whaler Shark, King Penguin, Grey Nurse Shark, Freshwater Sawfish, Gentoo Penguin and many more! Timing – 9.30 am to 6 pm everyday (including public holidays)
Victoria is known for its vast expanse of coastline; Melbourne, its capital, is blessed with the beautiful Brighton beach. Brighton beach is that you can live right at the edge of the waves in your little cute beach huts.
Well, I am a cricket maniac and so are half the Indians! The home of Australian Sports, Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), is a must visit for every sports enthusiast. The National Sports Museum in the MCG showcases the achievements of Australian sportsmen and womenthrough exhibitions that include sports artifacts. For me the best that MCG has to offer is the framed photograph of Sir Donald Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar posing together! Timing – 10 am to 5 pm everyday (except for Christmas and Good Friday)
You had a good trip. You enjoyed it. You came back with magnificent pictures and happy memories. Yet, the inevitable question always surfaces – what did you shop? What did you buy there? Shopping is definitely on my agenda as it should be on yours – come on, we all like shopping! Some of the best places for shopping in Melbourne include Queen Victoria Market, Prahran, Little Collins Street and Melbourne Central. The night is always young – The excitement of the Australian Open matches, the jubilation of the shopping and the happiness of exploring Melbourne – at the end of the day, this calls for a drink and some celebration. Bars (specially the rooftop bars), nightclubs, lounges, casinos and cinema theaters – pick your choice and head out for fun. Take a sneak peek at things that await you in Australia. So count your cash, take a few days off and head out to Melbourne to enjoy a well earned treat!
