There is nothing quite like the sound of an F1 car getting ready to race. The rev of the engines as the skilled driver gently taps on the accelerator, and then the sudden roar that quickly becomes a high pitched buzzing as they’re off! Formula One is the epitome of adrenaline for both participants and spectators alike.

Kicking off the 2013 Formula One Grand Prix season is the Australian Grand Prix to be held in Melbourne from the March 15 to 17.  As always, it promises to be a thrilling event, with plenty of action both on and off the track that is sure to excite any fan. The last five World Champions will take their spot on the grid, so the competition to win the first race of the season will be intense. Of course home grown hero, Mark Webber, will be there seeking to secure his place in Australian F1 history.

A Car For Every Occasion

While the F1 cars are the highlight, the Australian Grand Prix is a celebration of racing, with vehicles of all shapes and sizes taking part in this festival.  Though not as fast but just as loud, the V8 Supercars battle it out on the track each day, with automotive heavyweights like Nissan and Mercedes-Benz joining the field in this thrilling event. There are also plenty of exhibition races that provide both speed and entertainment such as the Porsche Carrera Cup that highlights these sleek speeding machines, which can reach up to 300 km/hour. For a more leisurely pace, the Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge focuses on entertainment rather than speed, with popular celebrities competing to show their skill behind the wheel.

Taking the audience back in time, the Total Oil Sports Car Challenge will feature historic vehicles from around the world, battling it out to prove that they are still able to reign supreme against their peers. For true motor vehicle aficionados, Shannon’s Historic Demonstration is sure to be a treat. Displaying heritage Formula One vehicles from 1953, you can see just how far these amazing machines have developed over time.

Looking Skywards

Even as all eyes are cast downwards on the Albert Park race track, take your glare upwards for an awesome display of death defying feats from the Royal Australian Air Force. Their aerial displays demonstrate the height of precision flying and aerobatics, all at speeds of almost 600 km/hour. Just don’t forget to keep breathing as they dazzle the skies.

While the buzzing of the F1s will no doubt ring in your ears for a while, the sounds of some great bands will also bring music to your ears. The Australian Grand Prix always ends with a fantastic concert, with international rockers from the past including the likes of The Who. No matter who wins the grand prix, make sure you have your tickets for the trackside entertainment.
