Austrian AirlinesAustrian Airlines was formed on 4th April 1957 after the merger of Austrian Airways and Air Austria, which were formed in 1955 when the State Treaty was inked. Within a year, on 31st March 1958, the airline started its maiden schedule service between Vienna and London. Subsequently, Austrian flights have become operational on various routes – domestic and international. Austrian Airlines celebrated its 50th anniversary on 31st March 2008. The same year, on 15th July 2008, the airline started offering special privileges to business class customers going to the Middle East or Central Asia. The premium services included excellent hospitality and Oriental flair that delight passengers. In August 2008, the airline received the privatisation mandate from the Austrian Government. At present, the airline is a part of the Lufthansa Group and a member of the Star Alliance. As of March, 2011, the fleet of Austrian Airlines consists of 42 aircrafts, with an average age of 10.6 years. The fleet includes 7 Airbus A319, 9 Airbus A320-200, 3 Airbus A321-100, 3 Airbus A321-200, 2 Boeing 737-600, 2 Boeing 737-700, 6 Boeing 737-800, 6 Boeing 767-300ER, and 4 Boeing 777-200ER aircrafts.

Baggage Allowance

The free Baggage Allowance policy of Austrian Airlines allows 20 kilograms and 30 kilograms of weight allowance to adults and children aged 2 years and older on Economy and Business Class, respectively. Awards & Recognition

Austrian Airlines have been awarded with many awards in recent years. Their route programme and fabulous services are all fine-tuned to suit the requirements of their passengers. The airline received “Crystal Cabin Award for the Europe Seat” in 2011 by Crystal Cabin Award. The airline also won first prize for “Best Wine on the Wing” in 2010, awarded by Global Travel Magazine. Austrian Airlines History

Austrian Airlines was founded through the merger of Austrian Airways and Air Austria on September 30th, 1957. The first flight was made on March 31st, 1958, when Vickers Viscount 779 took off from Vienna for London, via Zurich. The airline commenced its domestic operations on May 1st, 1963, and with time, spread its services to the whole world, including United Arab Emirates. In 1969, it began its transatlantic services with flights to New York from Vienna. In 2000, it became the member of Star Alliance and also acquired Lauda Air in this year. On February 15th, 2001, it acquired Rheintalflug. The name of the airline was shortened to Austrian in September, 2003.
