Austrian Airlines (OS) is the national flag carrier of Austria, with its headquarters in Office Park 2 at Vienna International Airport, in Schwechat. Austrian Airlines is a subsidiary of Lufthansa and also a member of Star Alliance. Along with its subsidiaries Lauda Air and Tyrolean Airways, Austrian Airlines operates flight services to more than 130 destinations. Baggage Allowance
The free Baggage Allowance policy of Austrian Airlines allows 20 kilograms and 30 kilograms of weight allowance to adults and children aged 2 years and older on Economy and Business Class, respectively. Awards & Recognition
Austrian Airlines have been awarded with many awards in recent years. Their route programme and fabulous services are all fine-tuned to suit the requirements of their passengers. The airline received “Crystal Cabin Award for the Europe Seat” in 2011 by Crystal Cabin Award. The airline also won first prize for “Best Wine on the Wing” in 2010, awarded by Global Travel Magazine. Then in the year 2008, Capital Magazine awarded Austrian Airlines with the Best Airline Award in Europe
Austrian Airlines History
Austrian Airlines was founded through the merger of Austrian Airways and Air Austria on September 30th, 1957. The first flight was made on March 31st, 1958, when Vickers Viscount 779 took off from Vienna for London, via Zurich. The airline commenced its domestic operations on May 1st, 1963, and with time, spread its services to the whole world, including United Arab Emirates. In 1969, it began its transatlantic services with flights to New York from Vienna. In 2000, it became the member of Star Alliance and also acquired Lauda Air in this year. On February 15th, 2001, it acquired Rheintalflug. The name of the airline was shortened to Austrian in September, 2003.
