What Should I Pack For My Trip To Bhutan?

Packing for a holiday has always been a tedious task, and that one most of us dread. When planning a trip to Bhutan, the last thing you would want to do is to over pack. Here’s a simple packing list to rid you of all your worries:

• It can get warm between the months of March to July, therefore it is advisable to carry light clothing. Even during summers, nights can be cool so carry light woolens

• Winters can get very cold, hence it is advised to carry heavy woolens, a fleece jacket and a windbreaker

• A compact umbrella or raincoat as it can rain anytime in Bhutan

• Hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and lip balm

• Swimwear if you wish to experience the traditional hot stone bath or hot springs

• Carry a flashlight since there are occasional power cuts throughout the country and when visiting the interior of dark temples and monasteries

• Comfortable shoes to go with the weather. Slip-on shoes are recommended when visiting chapels and monasteries

• Carry motion sickness medication for the long and winding roads. It is also recommended to carry antiseptic cream, anti-histamine cream, anti-diarrhoea pills and insect repellant. Take enough stock of medicines since there are very few chemists and hospitals in Bhutan

• Carry your camera (with extra batteries) to capture the ethereal beauty of Bhutanese landscape and postcard-perfect memories

• Since Eastern Bhutan offers challenging trekking opportunities, be sure to carry hiking gear including boots and pants

• Electricity runs at 220-240 volts so it will be a good idea to carry an international converter kit and adaptor plugs

• Carry earplugs since Bhutanese dogs tend to sleep during the day and bark all night
