ADVENTURE
The largest island in the spectacular Whitsundays in Queensland, Australia, Hamilton Island is the perfect place to relax and unwind or get out and explore the great outdoors. These are our suggestions of the top 6 things to do on Hamilton Island.
There is nothing better than kicking of your shoes and sinking your toes into soft, golden sand and there are plenty of places you can do this on Hamilton Island. Why not try Catseye Beach that is famous for its rejuvenating scenery.
Lie back on a beachside lounge and soak in the sun or build sandcastles with your kids. In the evening, take a walk along the quiet shoreline, letting the warm, salty water splash against your calves as the tide comes in. You will almost feel it take all your troubles away back to sea. This is what relaxation is all about!
The Great Barrier Reef is one of the most spectacular places on earth, stretching out over 3,000 kilometres along the coast of Queensland. Hamilton Island is one of the best places to experience the world’s largest coral reef either from a boat or up close as you snorkel in the water.
See how many different species of marine life you can spot. It will no doubt be easy to lose count given there are over 400 different types of coral in a glorious range of colours, humpback whales, dolphins and hundreds of species of tropical fish. Don’t forget to look up in the sky as well as over 200 different types of birds gracefully glide by.
Heart Reef, in the Great Barrier Reef of the Whitsundays, is a stunning composition of coral that has naturally formed into the shape of a heart. Located in Hardy Reef, Heart Reef is best experienced from the air by helicopter or seaplane, as visitors are unable to snorkel or dive there due it's protected status. You can combine a scenic flight over Heart Reef with other breathtaking spots in the Whitsundays, including Whitehaven Beach and Hill Inlet
One of the items on my personal bucket list is to sail a yacht on the Whitsundays. This chain of 74 tropical islands is the perfect location to try your hand as a seafarer or better yet, why not hire a luxury private yacht and let someone else steer for you.
There are several different ways you can sail the Whitsundays from Hamilton Island. If you are short on time, you can take a day tour on a catamaran and visit Whitehaven Beach or just anchor in the middle of the brilliant blue ocean and jump in.
You can also charter a yacht for a few days or weeks and explore several of the islands of the Whitsundays. Ask the captain to throw down the boom net and experience the thrill of feeling the open ocean race underneath as you hold onto the net.
For aqua thrill-seekers, it doesn’t get more exciting than riding a jet ski on the open sea at high speed. At Hamilton Island, you can learn how to ride one of these powerful machines. Before long, you will be zipping across the water at high speeds and will have the freedom to explore some of those tiny inlets you can only see from the sea.
If you don’t want to go out on your own, there are also several jet skiing tours you can take from Hamilton Island where a guide will show you the best places to ride.
Koalas are probably Australia’s most loved animals. These cute little bears just look like they were made to cuddle and at Wild Life Hamilton Island you can do just that!
Get close enough to pat a koala and snuggle with your new furry friend and also get a souvenir photograph taken so you can show all your friends back home. You can even have breakfast as you watch the koalas munch on eucalyptus leaves and laze in the trees.
There are plenty of other things to see on your visit to Wild Life Hamilton Island with many other Australian animals including kangaroos, lizards, birds and even crocodiles.
