FESTIVALS & EVENTS
The annual Wine Tasting Festival in Mumbai is one of the reasons wine lovers and connoisseurs wait for the New Year. The largest wine tasting festival in India, this unique event is testimony to the growing acceptance and even preference to wine drinking in a country where a night out almost always meant double malt whiskeys and Patiala pegs of dark rum. The Mumbai Wine Tasting Festival, scheduled for 5th and 6th January, celebrates this gradual but sure move towards wines of all kinds and is also a great place to sample wares from some of the finest wineries producing world class wine in India. Well, no one can stop you from getting a ‘large wine’ topped up with soda or chase wine with salty hands and a wedge of lime but if you really want to enjoy your wine, go for the method tried and tested over centuries by top wine experts and manufacturers. Sniff the glass to get a whiff of the top notes of your wine and then take a small sip. Whirl it around in your mouth and taste the acidity and sweetness of the concoction that has gone through a rigorous process to become this scrumptious liquid from a bunch of grapes. Let it roll gently down your throat and feel the heat and excitement growing as it travels smoothly into your stomach. One way ticket to heaven! The fine art of wine tasting requires checking the appearance, taking in the aroma, experiencing the sensation in the mouth and cherishing the after taste. Around the World in Two Days Several wineries from around the world will be represented at this premier wine event and will showcase some of their finest wares. When heading to the event ensure you have the day free to taste wines from this wide array of foreign wineries and all the wines from India. Also, please don’t drive back home! Pernod Richard’s Jacob’s Creek is one of the finest wines in the lineup. Ixora Wineries will bring in some delectable wines from Italy, France, Chile and Australia. The others include Gusto Imports, Kiara Wines and Tabuni Gvino. At the Mumbai Wine Tasting Festival, there are several wines from India too. The vineyards of Nashik will be represented by Nine Hills, Reveilo (Vintage Wines), Grover-Zampa Vineyards and Pause Wines. Sangli’s Fusion Wines, Baramati’s Four Seasons and Solapur’s Fratelli Wines would also be up for tasting. Show Me the Way… The venue is situated at a prime location in the city of Mumbai - The Radio Club at Colaba offers the perfect scenic view for this festival in Mumbai and the pier overlooks the Gateway of India –one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city. The Arabian Sea lapping near your ankles makes it worth your while. Get going quick, book a fab hotel stay or a wonderful holiday and don’t forget to tell us all about it!
