FESTIVALS & EVENTS
The transition from spring to summer is usually met with disappointment, especially in India, where the soaring temperatures are bound to get the better of most of us. The good news is that there are some very interesting festivals and events lined up for the month of April. Use them as an excuse to take that big, fat leave from work, take off on a vacation and don’t forget to thank us later. We’ve listed out 5 of our favourites for you.
Spring lends a special glow to Kashmir’s magnificence. This is the time when the pastures in the valley come alive with blooming tulips and rival the famed Keukenhof Gardens. Held in Srinagar, which is home to Asia’s largest tulip garden, the arresting sight of over one million tulips in full bloom is enough to make even the most hardened hearts swoon with awe. Add to that—Kashmiri folk songs and dance, local handicrafts, and of course, the traditional Kashmiri cuisine, and you’ve got yourself the perfect summer vacation.
When: 25th March to 15th April 2018

Rajasthan’s only hill station, Mount Abu is a popular holiday destination during summers, especially during the Mount Abu Summer Festival. Held on the occasion of Buddha Poornima every summer, this festival starts with a ceremonial procession, followed by folk performances of Rajasthan and Gujarat. In addition, there are also a number of races and sporting events such as horse race, skating race, and boat race on Nakki Lake, and a superb display of fireworks on the concluding day. While here, do not miss the Sham-e-Qawwali musical show, which brings together renowned qawwals from all over the country.

Where: Mount Abu, Rajasthan
Perhaps one of the most celebrated music festivals across the United States (which is saying something), Coachella is, quite literally, a pilgrimage for music and pop culture buffs. Coachella promises a musical extravaganza surpassing the wildest expectations of even the most devoted party animals. Considering the number of art installations, games, food stalls, and the experience of camping out with your buddies under the moonlight while the music throbs on, you should definitely be booking your flight to California this summer.

Just in case you were wondering just how obsessed people can be about cheese, let us tell you that they can be obsessed enough to have a national festival dedicated to it. And why not? It’s cheese, after all.
Taking place in Trujillo every year, this has now become the largest cheese festival in the world. Sample thousands of different varieties of cheese, and find the perfect flavours to go with your wines and cooking. From local and national cheesemakers, to exotic regional brands, and the kind of stuff that you won’t see in any market – the sheer display of cheese here is mindboggling. Also, if you’re looking to combine things with alcohol, the wine and beer stalls are located within premises. You’re welcome.
