Ah, fathers! They are the ones who taught us everything from riding a bike to doing our own taxes. They are the ones who have cheered us on no matter where our heart has led us, and been our mentor when times were tough. In short, they were our first superheroes.

So this Father’s Day, we thought of celebrating all the fun times we’ve had with our dads—be it on a road trip, a food adventure, or just relaxing together at home, watching cricket. After all, our dads are not just our friend-philosopher-guide; they also make for the best travel buddies!

One of the most memorable trips I have taken with my dad was our recent family holiday to Kerala. Dad and I had a great time admiring the natural beauty while enjoying our stay on a houseboat. Being foodies, Dad and I also really enjoyed some delicious seafood. This trip brought my father and I closer to each other and I discovered my best friend in him again.

One of my earliest memories with my dad are of me as an eight-year-old snuggling with my dad on a sofa at 5 am, watching ODIs in Australia and New Zealand on Doordarshan. This year, I finally convinced him to watch cricket and holiday together with me in Australia for the World Cup! Dad and I really enjoyed our time in Australia and I shall forever cherish memories from this trip.

My dad and I are each other’s best friends and travel buddies. On our many family trips, my dad usually plans everything from train tickets to hotel accommodation. This time, on a recent trip to Ranthambore, I decided to give my dad a break and planned all our accommodation, food, safari etc.  The feeling of pride and contentment in his eye when he saw me being independent and taking charge makes me feel like doing such little things again and again for him.

My dad is a defence personnel, and was generally quite strict with me till I went to college. However, as I have grown older, we have become great buddies. This photograph is of our trip to Paonta Sahib from Dehradun. It was a rainy day when we made a pit stop to binge on some bhutta. It took some convincing to get Dad to run and jump for this photograph but he finally did it! His presence makes me stand tall every day.

My father-in-law was visiting us in Mumbai for a few days. Since he is a big Bollywood fan, we got souvenir pictures clicked outside Mannat (Shah Rukh Khan’s house), Prateeksha and Jalsa (Big B’s houses). Later, Dad and I went for a leisurely stroll along Marine Drive where we had an interesting conversation about cricket over cutting chai and sev puri. After a rather touristy day, a relaxing dinner at Veda followed.

So this Father’s Day, take your father out and make his day special.  Here’s to more fun times with Dad!
