FESTIVALS & EVENTS
There’s a new world waiting to be built; a world that populates the earth with structures that use raw materials, water and energy responsibly, leaves little non-biodegradable waste and conserves natural resources for the next generation to enjoy a rich legacy. The only way this vision can be realized is by adopting sustainable development in a big way. Efforts have already begun with many countries including India working towards reducing their carbon footprints.
Interested to know more? Then head to Mumbai in April to participate in the EcoBuild India Conference and find all the answers to your questions. EcoBuild is one of the world’s premier congregations dedicated to profitable sustainable development in the built environment. This three-day event will take place from April 16-18, 2013 and will see much debate and discussion on India’s sustainable future. At the event, one can also get to see exhibits by national and international suppliers of green materials and technologies.
The Event
The EcoBuild conference is organised by UBM and was started in the United Kingdom in 2004 as a small conference attracting just a handful of participants. Today, the conference is an acclaimed platform for stakeholders in the sustainable development sector and is expected to attract hundreds of exhibitors. On offer will be everything from energy efficient products and renewable energy options, to green building materials, efficient water management services and consultancy services. What’s in store for the thousands of visitors expected to attend the first EcoBuild conference in India is easy access to more information on new sustainable technologies, raw materials, innovative finishing products and first-hand interaction with experts and Green consultants.
The event will see several extensive discussions and seminars covering topics like Government’s role in encouraging a greener built environment through policy and initiatives, India’s historical legacy in sustainable development and the future of design and role of architects.
The Venue
The Bombay Exhibition Center is located in Goregaon (east) in Mumbai, in the sprawling NSE complex and is about 10 minutes away from the city’s airport. It is one of the largest exhibition halls in the country and has all the amenities and conference facilities to make life easy for its participants. The venue has played host to many major trade shows and events and has several accommodation options close to it. Pick a hotel before you leave; some of the good properties located in the vicinity include: The Trident, Hotel Kohinoor Elite and Hotel Arma Executive.
Local Transportation
Mumbai is well known for its robust public transport and your easiest option would be to take a cab from the airport. A more affordable option is the auto rickshaw and an even cheaper alternative is the local train. However, if you haven’t used local trains before, skip them in favour of the auto-rickshaw; Mumbai’s local trains have silent rules you may not know about!
Distractions
If you have some time in hand, check out some of the city’s top attractions. One worth your while is the 17th century Mount Mary Church in Bandra. Other attractions close to the venue are Film City; beach lovers should head to Manori beach a few kilometres away. Make the most of your time in Mumbai and enjoy its vibrant nightlife; most pubs, bars and clubs are concentrated in either South Mumbai or in the Bandra - Andheri stretch. The city is also known for its varied cuisine (think Parsi, Gujarati, Irani and Konkani) and one of the iconic restaurants worth visiting is Mahesh Lunch Home in Juhu.
