No longer relegated to a glass box in the corner of a club, the star attraction at some of biggest raves, clubs and music festivals around the globe are the DJs themselves. With skillful blending of rhythms, they can gradually bring a crowd up to electronic beats at a furious speed, and just as quickly bring them back down into a soulful trance. Being a DJ isn’t about just changing records on a turntable; it is about creating a mood and controlling crowds of thousands.

Enter the Trance

One the greatest DJs in the world, Tiesto is all set to delight his Indian fans in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi on March 29, 30 and 31 respectively. Born in the Netherlands in 1969 as Tijs Michiel Verwest, Tiesto has several pseudonyms including Da Joker, Rose and Tom Ace. He specialises in electronic dance, trance, progressive trance, electro house and house music genres. He is also Grammy nominated and the recipient of several MTV awards.

His largest audience was over a billion people, when he performed at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games opening ceremony, the first DJ to play live at any Olympics. He not only spun records but also produced new tracks especially for the opening ceremony to complement the spirit of the games and theme of the ceremony.

The Man Behind the Music

While many may not recognise his face, Tiesto has been honoured with a wax statue at Madame Tussauds in London. Millions of others follow his Club Life radio show and his Club Life podcast, which is the number one music podcast in the world. The name Tiesto is now considered a global musical phenomenon.

Tiesto has also collaborated with a diverse range of performers including Kanye West, Coldplay and Goldfrapp and also uses his fame to support and bring awareness to charities that are close to his heart. He is the worldwide ambassador for the Dance4Life foundation that promotes awareness of HIV/AIDS. His work there includes recording a track with Maxi Jazz from Faithless that peaked in the Top 10 around Europe. Proving that music is an integral part of fashion, Tiesto also celebrated his love of fashion by collaborating with Giorgio Armani, with a limited edition range of T-shirts that have been sold alongside his music. This range contributed over $300,000 to the Dance4Life charity.
