There’s nothing aam about this festival. A fitting tribute to the ‘king’ of fruits, the New Delhi International Mango Festival celebrates the joy that mangoes bring with a series of exhibitions, fun-filled activities and trading opportunities. Scheduled to be held from June 30 to July 2 this year, the festival promises to provide desserts and the sweet fruit of labour to all who make the effort to get there!

Fruitfulness

The festival showcases a whopping 1100 different varieties of the fruit with traders and exporters from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar and Delhi bringing their stock to the festival. Varieties include the much loved langra, chausa, alphonso, daseri and totapari to the not so well known dhaman, dhoon, fazia, and balia. Given that India exports nearly 44,000 metric tonnes of mangoes to over 80 countries worldwide, the festival is an ideal networking and trading platform for this much loved fruit.

Aam Activities

As can be expected, the International Mango Festival, organised by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC) in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, is as much about fun and food as it is about business and trade. Indulge in some mango eating competitions; mango related quizzes, mango tasting counters, slogan writing competitions, mango fruit carving, music, folk performances as well as activities for children. The festival also invites famous chefs from prominent retsurants and hotels to whip up mouthwatering mango recipes from main course dishes to chutneys and desserts. There are also several stalls from where visitors can not only pick up a variety of mangoes to take home but also lip-smacking pickles, chutneys, jellies, aam papad, mango pulp, and aam panna.

If the festival seems too long to wait for some delicious mango desserts, whip up some mango lassi at home.
