A Happy Republic (Every) Day

It was the Sun’s day off, That chilly wintery morning, When I asked my dad, “What’s so good about today?”   And we hopped on his bike, For a long windy ride, To the dew-wet gardens, Of India Gate,   This was the very day, With a mouth open in wonder, I saw an army tank riding, The road to India Gate,   One nozzled, two nozzled, Ten wheels on each side, Some mighty big tanks guzzled, The road to India Gate,   As one followed another, The salutes and the flowers, On us which were showered, From the choppers above,   “Oh those big fighter planes, With their big horse powers” I stood awestruck with dad, At the dew-wet India Gate,   As armies marched past by us, Saying “Hey, Haai, Hishhh” And juggled their walking sticks, With skills, like that of Chris Bliss,   I wondered what it meant, To our big Government, Parading big army tanks, On a chilly windy day?    Then I grew up and saw, The world, its nature raw, The wars and who honours, Our safety every day,   Thank god we remember, And celebrate our armies, For at least a day we show care, To the lives for us at stake,   So, on this 26 of Jan How chilly be the morning, I will not stay stuck, In my own little worrying,   I am hitting the road, How windy be the morning, To the dew-wet grounds, Of the lovely India gate,   “Now who makes India a republic but we?" Happy Republic Day!
