The amount of free checked baggage allowance on all American Airlines flights depends on the weight and dimensions of baggage, destination, and class of cabin.
- If your trip is domestic, or transatlantic or transpacific, you can check in up to 10 bags.
- If you are travelling to/through/from Mexico, Caribbean, Central America, or South America, you can check in up to five bags.
- For all regions, the maximum dimension of the bag (length + width + height) should be lesser than 158 cm.
- For economy class passengers, the maximum check-in bag allowance is 23 kg.
- For those who travel in first class and business class, the maximum weight allowed for check in baggage is 32 kg.

Extra baggage charges depend on the origin and destination. If you are travelling to or from Asia, an additional bag that weighs around 23 kg to 32 kg would cost USD 100, whereas, a bag that weighs around 32 kg to 45 kg would cost around USD 450.
