Coimbatore Airport History
Coimbatore Airport is located approximately 11 km away from the heart of the city. It is mainly a custom airport and is better known as Coimbatore Civil Aerodrome. During 1940s, the airport commenced the Indian operating Fokker F27, Douglas DC-3 and Hawker Siddeley's Avro 748 for the first time. At that time, the air services were only up to the cities like Chennai and Bengaluru which later extended in Mumbai and Cochin as well. In the period of the late 80s, the airport was temporarily shut down for runway expansion. It was in the year 1987 when the airport got its new terminal. At present, the airport is operating both domestic as well as international flights.
Coimbatore Airport Terminals
Terminal 1: The airport has a single passenger terminal for both national and international operations. There are several airlines like Air India, IndiGo, Jet Airways, JetLite and SpiceJet which connect the city with all the major cities of the country such as Delhi, Kozhikode, Mumbai, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bangalore. Airlines like Air Arabia and Silkair connect the airport with Sharjah and Singapore respectively.
Terminal 2: It is mainly a cargo terminal where airlines like Air India Cargo, Blue Dart Aviation, Kingfisher Xpress and Yanda Airlines offer their services.

Connectivity with the City from Coimbatore Airport
Bus Stand: Coimbatore airport is located nearly 11 km from the nearest major bus stand. From here, you can take various state buses as well as private cabs to reach the airport. It takes around 20 to 25 minutes to reach the airport.
Railway Station: Coimbatore railway station is approximately 18 km from Coimbatore airport and is directly connected by road. It takes 30 to 40 minutes to reach the airport from the railway station. You can easily hire taxis from the station to reach the airport.
