A historic town and former capital of the Chalukya Dynasty, Hospet (now known as Hosapete) is located in northern Karnataka on the Tungabhadra River. Just 12 km from the famous Vijayanagar ruins of Hampi, Hospet is 6 km from theTungabhadra Dam. With a lot of iron mining in the region, Hospet is also known as the Steel City, and is well connected by the Indian Railways, with several major daily trains at the Hospet Junction Railway Station.
