FESTIVALS & EVENTS
This July, the Silicon Valley of India, Bengaluru, will see an important congregation of IT professionals and experts. Panellists and participants will discuss issues related to the storing and computing of data and about new products in the space. Industry leaders, data analytics experts and curious nerds will make up the eager population at this conference and all IT–Eyes in the country will be on the Fifth Elephant.
The Fifth Elephant conference to be held in Bengaluru will discuss the efficient techniques for storage and analysis of Big Data.Confused?
Wondering what the big deal is?
It’s just data, right?
Sure, it is about data. But we’re talking Exabytes of it! We’re talking of ‘Big Data’ – stuff that’s so gigantic it could fill up rooms! Someone needs to figure out how to make sense of it all and turn this raw intelligence that companies and organisations gather into something that will positively impact everything from corporate bottom-lines to the way crimes are solved. You’re still flabbergasted, admit it. Take a trip to Bengaluru this year and be a part of the Fifth Elephant – the conference that will answer all your questions.
Where?
The conference is on from July 11-13 and the action will take place at the NIMHANS Convention Centre in Bengaluru. Organised by HasGeek – one of the most prominent open-source campaigners in India – the ticket to the event comes at a very reasonable cost!
What?
The Fifth Elephant is actually a 3-day event with a preliminary day of workshops on 11th July followed by two conference days on 12th and 13th. An added feature of event this year is that it has separate tracks for business and developer audiences. The workshops will enable attendees to learn more about open–source frameworks and tools like Pig, Hadoop and Hive, programming languages and visualisation techniques.
The underlying need for such a conference is the huge amounts of data captured in fields like genomics, meteorology and environmental research among others. This data needs to be stored, ordered, analysed and finally moulded into relevant information. These processes for Big Data (that’s a real geek term!) cannot be carried out with regular, available database management tools and that’s where The Fifth Elephant comes in. The conference will explore solutions for problems emanating from this size of data, compare notes with others in the space and understand how hidden meanings in data can be revealed without magic.
Who?
The attendees will be a motley crowd of data analysts, statisticians, scientists, journalists, data-driven product managers and designers, enterprise architects, developers, enthusiasts and geeks of every shape. They’d be contributing as well as learning about new technologies that make sense out of Big Data, new tools, platforms and processes and best practices for real life situations concerning data.
Big Data is the future of data game and if you want to win you need to get with the bandwagon early on. So put on your best geek face, board a flight or take a road trip – be in Bengaluru to walk with the Fifth Elephant this July.
