Want To Go ?

New York needs no introduction. It is where dreams are made and anything and nothing is impossible. There is so much to see and do in this dynamic city, from shopping in Soho, wandering around Times Square or waiting for that special someone on the top of the Empire State Building. But during New York Fashion Week, the Lincoln Centre is the only place to be.

Warm Up in Style

Whilst the weather is still a bit chilly, all the well-heeled are heading to New York for the Mercedes-Benz Fall Fashion Week to be held from February 7 to 14. One of the four major fashion weeks held around the world, New York is the only one held outside of Europe. This American Festival is an opportunity not only for local designers to showcase their collections, but a time when international fashion houses flock to the Big Apple to show the American public the latest trends from around the world.

Setting Trends

Young designers are an important feature of this fashion festival, with many emerging brands hoping to make their mark. Some of the emerging brands set to wow the world this year at New York include Monika Chiang and Martin Margiela. Another young designer to watch out for is Prabal Gurung, who began his career in Delhi. His designs are both innovative and classy and have even been seen on modern day style icons such as the First Lady Michelle Obama and Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.

The show will open with Nicholas K, a relatively new-comer to the New York fashion scene. The founder siblings of the design company  focus on providing modern classics in their ready to wear range. The show culminates with Ralph Lauren, an all American institution, renowned for his understated sophistication, clean lines and attention to detail. With over 40 years in the business, Ralph Lauren’s name is almost timeless and synonymous with New York Fashion Week.

Other designers that will feature in this grand New York event include trendsetters such as Diane Von Furstenberg, who single handedly revolutionised the way women take their wardrobe from work to play with her wrap dress. Calvin Klein, famous for his trademark underwear, is also making a mark on women’s wear with his clean cuts and a modern twist on some old classics. Other designers to watch out for include Monique LHuillier, DKNY and Carolina Herrera.

Celebrity Spotting

It is now almost impossible to talk about New York Style without thinking of Carrie Bradshaw, the ultimate American fashion icon. This Sex and the City character from the big and small screen taught women around the world what it means to be a true fashionista. She left most of us craving for the highest pair of Manolo Blahniks while dreaming of walking down Fifth Avenue in a pink tutu. Attending New York Fashion Week also means having the chance of spotting celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Katie Homes and several other famous faces from the world of fashion and entertainment.

Over 100,000 people are expected to walk through the Lincoln Centre and millions more will follow the shows online just to be part of the glitz and glamour that is New York Fashion Week.
