The first half of 2020 has been very rough on those who love to and need to travel. As every administration’s self-preservation instinct kicked in, one by one all borders closed, and we were told to stay put wherever we were indefinitely (imagine!).

But amidst all the post-pandemic chaos, here’s finally a piece of news that would make you smile. As we all know, the commendable Vande Bharat Mission was launched to bring back Indians, who were stuck abroad due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Initially, only Air India and Air India Express had participated in this initiative. But now, as it enters its fourth phase, several airlines have joined hands for running special repatriation flights for citizens.

Things to Know About Repatriation Flights

Repatriation flights are not your regular flights. These are special flights designated to bring back the citizens of a country. Only permanent citizens of the destination country are eligible to take these flights back home. Moreover, you are required to have a strong reason for boarding a repatriation flight, such as reuniting with your family, working or continuing your education. Thus, unfortunately you can’t board these flights to go on a vacation. Furthermore, businessmen who wish to take short trips for work are not considered. Nonetheless, flying for medical purposes or for attending the funeral of a family member is permitted.

Foreigners who are stuck in India can also book these international flights on MakeMyTrip to go back home. Further, Indians who have a job, internship or admission (education) offer from other countries, can take the repatriation flights, given that they have a visa of that country along with a residence permit for at least 30 days.

Each country has its own rules for repatriation, and every traveller must carefully go through these before booking a flight to ensure a hassle-free journey.
