Fiordo De Furore
Set behind the dramatic landscape of the Amalfi Coast, Furore is a charming town with houses sprinkled along the rocky cliffs and along the sea. Adorned with olive trees, grapevines on terraces going up the mountainside, scented flowers, wild blackberries, bowers of bright yellow, red roofs and colourful majolica on the bell-tower, Furore is fondly referred as “the painted village”.
One of the most picturesque corners of the Amalfi Coast, Fjord of Furore is a small piece of a tall cliff cut open to create a little beach with pristine turquoise waters. It is believed that the wrathful name of ‘Furore’ comes from the sound of the waves during nighttime storms. The steep walls on both sides connected by a bridge create a majestic little scenery.
Why Visit Fiordo De Furore
Be it for the nature-lovers or adventure enthusiasts, Fiorde de Furore is the place to be! More than for regular passage, the bridge (30 metres high and a section of Highway 163) is used by the locals for those adventurous free falls to hit the placid waters of the lake. A stop in Furore is a must for its enchanting landscape, and if you are along the Coast in July, do not miss the annual Mediterranean High Diving Championship Cup held here every July. Only for the strongest athletes, the competition takes place on the bridge at a height of 28 metres above the sea.
Places To See Around
At the end of the beautiful waters is a beach that gives way to a quaint little fishing village of Furore with a chain of coloured houses called "monazzeri", which means "living in solitude”. Also in the fjord, you can visit the museum dedicated to Furore’s past, and stop to dine at the restaurant overlooking the beach.
Movie Connection
In 1948, director Roberto Rossellini shot an episode called The Miracle that belonged to his two-part movie L’Amore.
