The train has two spacious room types—Deluxe Cabins and the Presidential Suites—reflecting the splendours of an era from the Deccan milieu. And every coach has been modelled for maximum comfort, with either only 4 Deluxe Cabins or 2 Presidential Cabins in one. Besides the basic modern amenities like a wide bed, attached bathroom, air-conditioning, telephone, and personal safe, the regal class cabins are allotted personal attendants for a round-the-clock service.

Which Route to Take?

The Deccan Odyssey shows you the varied colours of India, all from a space of extreme luxury. Although the train takes many routes, here are the three most popular itineraries to choose from:

  1. Jewels of the Deccan

Soak in the sights of the Deccan as you set off from Mumbai with day-long stops at the historical cities of Bijapur, Aihole–Pataadakkal, Hampi and Hyderabad. Then return via Aurangabad, where you’d have a two-day stopover to enjoy UNESCO World Heritage Sites showcasing Jain and Buddhist monuments—Ajanta and Ellora Caves. While on this trip, you’d also get to visit historic monuments at Bijapur, enjoy the architectural marvels of Hampi, and carry back goodies like ittar and glass bangles from Hyderabad.

  1. An Indian Odyssey

The Delhi–Mumbai journey begins at New Delhi and moves into Sawai–Madhopur. Get off at these stops to enjoy many attractions there, including the wildlife of the Ranthambore National Park. The next stop is Agra, so make space in your heart to cherish the monument of love, the Taj Mahal. Thereon, get glimpses of the splendours of Jaipur, the charms of Udaipur, and the vivacity of an ancient city that was capital to the Gaekwad rulers, Vadodara. Here you can enjoy another UNESCO World Heritage Site— the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park. The luxury train chugs along Aurangabad, for those who’d like to see the Ellora Caves, before ending the ride at Mumbai.

The newest itinerary on the Odyssey takes you to Goa around the New Year’s Eve to soak in its  laidback vibe. Get aboard the wheels of luxury, and enjoy the ride through the scenic spots along the Konkan region, with a day each in North Goa, where you can enjoy the New Year’s Eve gala; Central Goa, where you can enjoy one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites; Old Goa where you can appreciate Portuguese heritage and architecture; and then South Goa, which is famous for its beaches, before heading back to Mumbai.
