Varanasi Airport History:
Varanasi Airport which is also called Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport or Babatpur Airport is situated at a distance of about 18.9 Km to the north-west of the city center Varanasi. Varanasi is well connected with all the major cities of India like Delhi, Mumbai, and Lukhnow, etc and there is a daily direct flight from Varanasi Airport to New Delhi.

Domestic Terminal: The domestic terminal of the airport is well equipped with the latest facilities including escalators and a high-tech baggage handling system.
International Terminal: The second terminal is for international operations and is known for connecting the city with all the major international destinations.

Auto rickshaws are also available outside the airport and a bus which leaves from Hotel India is available every day at 10.00 and 13.30 to the city center.
Bus: Bus transport runs between the terminal and Hotel Vaibhav which is centrally located or a bus can be taken to civil court area (Kacheheri) from where large number of options for reaching the city center are available
Rail: Distance between Varanasi airport and Varanasi Railway Station is about 18.9 Km, i.e. 11.8 miles and there are various routes to reach the railway station from the Varanasi airport and it may take little more than 30 minutes to cover the distance in a car or taxi depending on the traffic conditions.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) is the operator of the Varanasi Airport and it manages the airport facility quite well and provides for the security and the up-keep of all the services, AAI takes care to revamp the facility and the services every year. The authority also manages the services like cargo and custom for security purposes.
