As we started our second day in Bangkok, mom woke me up at 7:30 in the morning; another 5 minutes of sleep would have been great! Today we were going to Khao Kheow Open Zoo, which is no ordinary zoo. After breakfast we started our 2-hour drive and stopped en route to buy vegetables for the animals. I was busy admiring the Pineapple and Cassava fields on the way when I spotted a restaurant that served Roast Chicken. We stopped for a quick bite here and I had a delicious snack of Roasted Chicken, Fried Pork, Steamed Rice and Coke...so healthy!

It was so much fun feeding the Flamingos!

As we approached the entrance to the zoo I got very excited. We drove around the premises in our car for half an hour until I spotted a Flamingo feeding area and bought some Flamingo feed. Soon they started to crowd around me. They put their head into the bowl filled with water and feed and started eating, while making loud noises that my grandmother would not find too polite at her table. Their beaks were like grinders. Then I saw two Fishbowl Owls. I asked if I could take pictures with them, and the staff obliged. He put one Owl on my finger and another on my shoulder. It was amazing to be so close to such a magnificent bird. My mind slipped into the world of Harry Potter. How lucky he was to have a pet owl.

If only I could have a pet owl like this one

Afterwards, we had plans to camp in the tents at Khao Kheow. The tents were made of canvas and had a plastic covering to protect them from rain. Out tent was air-conditioned and even had a little fridge inside! The bathrooms were Japanese-style with showers, and were away from the tents. I took pictures of it for Sonali Mausi (my architect aunt). Soon after the rain came down and was a welcome break, as it gave us a chance to spend some family time. We played card games for a long time. Teatime at the lakeside restaurant saw the adults drinking tea; my cousin Neil and I went on the swings. It was so much fun. Soon after we went down to the lake to take a walk. There were Painted Storks sitting near the lake and a Peafowl was walking around. We watched the sunset whilst my uncle taught me how to skip stones in the lake.
