After a packed Day 5, here are the highlights of our second day in Udaipur and Day 6 of our road trip.

Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal

A very unique compilation of puppets from not just Rajasthan but the world over, Bharatiya Lok Kala Mandal makes for a popular museum. Every inch of this place is covered with colourful exhibits including paintings, ornaments, outfits, masks and even photos of the tribal communities that have helped Indian puppetry evolve.

Hathipole Market

Udaipur’s shopping haven brings you a slice of Rajasthan in the form of beautiful bandhej and lehriya garments and bed covers. I however, skipped all those and made a beeline for the jewellery store and picked up a beautiful bangle and traditional bhil-style earrings.

Dargah Hazrat Mastaan Shah Baba

Our parents had been to the famous dargah located in the Mallatalai area near Rani Road when they visited Udaipur back in 2012 and recommended that we must not miss it. So off we went to pay our respects to the famous Sufi saint who is endearingly referred to as Gulab Baba by the locals.

Lal Bagh Club House

No, I cannot sign off without talking about a delicious dinner we had at the Lal Bagh Club House on Sukhadia Circle road. Tariq’s friend recommended the restaurant to him for lal maas and we scoured the city looking for it since Google Maps does not list this place. Guess where we finally found it? About 100 metres from our hotel, Golden Tulip. Oops!

But the effort proved fruitful because the meat delicacy was cooked to perfection. Despite that, Lal Bagh got a ‘thumbs down’ from us because of its poor service. My tip: Do go there but make sure you get a table indoors.

An early morning drive awaits us to take us to the land of Gurshikhar. Mount Abu, can’t wait to see you!
