Flock to the banks of Ganga, India’s holy river, for Ganga Dusserah to celebrate its descent from heaven to Earth. While the celebrations take place across all major ghats, including Allahabad, Garhmukteshwar, Haridwar and Rishikesh, the most elaborate fair takes place at Varanasi. Gear up for a magical spectacle as thousands of lamps light up the mighty ghats and the atmosphere comes alive with music and festive fervour.

Join the procession of Buddhist monks as they celebrate the day when Sakyamuni (Buddha) attained enlightenment. The largest and most important Tibetan festival sees thousands of people walk up to the ‘Tarboche Flagpole' located near Kailash, which is brought down and a new pole is elected to mark the Saga Dawa celebrations. People demonstrate their faith in the divine power of Buddha by attaching prayer flags to the pole.

Immerse yourself in the spiritual aura of holy chants as you join the procession of Lord Jagannath (Lord Krishna) during the Rath Yatra held in Orissa every year. As the highly embellished and colorful chariots of Lord Jagannath, his sister Goddess Subhadra and his elder brother Lord Balabhadra emerge from the temple, thousands of devotees join the convoy to seek blessings of the almighty. The splendour, energy and charisma of the festival transcends religious boundaries, and turns the event into a celebration of faith for everyone taking part in it.

Also known as the Snake Race, the Champakulam Boat Race is one of the oldest water sports in the category. Organised every year on the River Pamba, it is contested by young, enthusiastic and trained boat riders who move their paddles in a well-coordinated and rhythmic manner to make it to the finishing line. People teem along the banks of the river to enjoy this exciting and soul-stirring race.
