Nicknamed the ‘island of beauty’, Corsica, France abounds in history as much as it does in its picturesque scenery. The French Emperor Napoléon was born in 1769 in Ajaccio, Corsica’s capital city. Dotted along the town are historic statues and sites like the Bonaparte House, which was Napoléon’s family home and now a national museum as well as Musée Fesch, which houses famous works of art. Corsica also has a prominent prehistoric site in the area of Filitosa where 16 large standing stones with carved human faces dating back thousands of years stand tall.
