The foundation stone for Christ Church was laid down in the year 1884 while it became sanctified in the year 1857 for prayers, masses and services. As per the Christ Church history, it was one of the most popular devotional sites for the large number of Anglo Indians and British residents that occupied Shimla.
One of the oldest churches of North India, Christ Church has been a popular devotional attraction for Christians. It reminds me of the popular British constructions of the country and carries a unique architectural beauty built in the Neo-Gothic style. It was designed by Colonel J. T. Boileau and Lockwood Kipling. It is known for its unique brass plaques, stained glass and home windows. The towers of Christ Church are about 90 feet high, featuring a clock, a brass church bell, and five tubular bells. Its front porch was reconstructed in 1873.
Christ Church is located in the heart of Shimla and at a walking distance from various tourist attractions in the city like the Shimla US Club. The attraction is easily accessible by road, and you can take a bus or a taxi to reach here from the bus stand. If coming to Shimla via the railway station, you can turn onto the Circular Road on National Highway 22.
