This spectacular building was made for the 1889 World's Fair in Paris by Gustave Eiffel and was named after him! He also had a small apartment near the top of the tower!
There are 18,000 metallic parts that make up this grand tower. There are 1,665 steps to the top. With each part adding up, this is one of the world's tallest structures.

After the Germans occupied France in World War II, Hitler asked to destroy the Eiffel Tower. But luckily, the General refused to do so, which saved this masterpiece.
This enormous structure sways during wind storms. Not only that, but the iron expands during heat in summer, making it grow taller or leaner, and giving it a moving effect.
This structure retains its beauty because 50 special painters maintain it, painting it every 7 years in the traditional way. It takes about 1.5 to 3 years to complete this process.
