Roorkee

Piran Kaliyar Shariff, a shrine in Roorkee dedicated to a 13th-century Sufi saint, is a stunning and often visited place of worship. This sacred spot, known by many as "Sabir Paak," draws a large number of worshippers every year.

According to the people of Kunjapuri Devi Temple, this is the spot where Lord Shiva dropped the top part of the corpse of Sati on the way to Kailash. At an elevation of 1645 metres, it provides a breathtaking panorama of the Himalayan Range to the north and the Doon Valley, Rishikesh, and Haridwar to the south.

Swarga Ashram was constructed in honour of Swami Vishudhanand, also known as Kali Kamli Wala. Temples, ashrams, a busy bazaar, sadhus, and bathing ghats, where religious rites are held at sunrise and dusk, are all there in the Ashram.

Adiguru Shankaracharya founded the revered Bharat Mandir premises in the eighth century as a shrine to Lord Vishnu. The five Pandavas and Draupadi are said to have stopped there on their trip to heaven. Many people in the community attribute the city's very existence to the construction of this temple.

Located on the banks of the Ganges, the historic Geeta Bhawan is a centre dedicated to the protection of Hindu epics and Vedic texts. The temple's walls are famous for their carvings depicting scenes from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana.

Ban Ganga Wetland is a popular destination for sightseers. Originating with a tale from the Ramayana, this location has a rich mythical past. This area is home to thriving flora and fauna that will delight your senses.

Located approximately 1.3 kilometres outside of the city itself, the Old Cemetery is now a designated Archaeological Survey of India Monument. The overall area of this cemetery, designed in the Gothic style, is spanned across an area of 7.623 acres. The local Christian community continues to use a portion of the cemetery as a burial ground.

All things related to geographic information systems (GIS), cartography, and surveying can be found at the Survey Museum. Various pieces of historical surveying equipment and related documentation are on show at this modest museum. As of the year 1890, the museum's oldest piece of surveying gear is from.

Roorkee is home to a fantastic educational resource in the form of the Geology and Geophysics Museum. The Shivalik Mountains, located about 30 kilometres from Roorkee, supplied the museum with the rocks and minerals on exhibit, as well as fossilised elephant bones and a tree.

Located about 2 kilometres within the city limits is the Roorkee Group Museum and Archives, an army museum honouring the Bengal Engineer Group. There are several books, records, paintings, pictures, and brochures there pertaining to their military campaigns in Gazni, China, Afghanistan, Burma, Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, Sind, and other countries.

The Roorkee Cantonment, which is one of the oldest cantonments in India, is the most well-known tourist attraction in this part of the city. The Cantonment is home to the headquarters of the Bengal Engineering Group, which is more commonly referred to as the Bengal Sappers. The construction of the War Memorial was a way to honour the sacrifices made by members of the armed forces.

This park spans over 18 acres and features over 39 water and thrill rides at the amusement park as well as the 'Water World' park. Additionally, the complex is home to one-of-a-kind museums as well as a food court that serves a variety of cuisines. Only genuine daredevils are permitted to ride the Madness Tower, which is a nerve-wracking structure that stands 60 feet tall and features six different water-based thrill experiences. The attraction just debuted to the public.

The Solani Aqueduct is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of engineering in all of Uttarakhand. Located on the picturesque Solani River, this structure dates back to 1846 and was constructed only for the use of British officers. This Solani Aqueduct, which was inspired by Portugal's Alcantara Aqueduct, is a popular tourist destination in Roorkee.
