Kohima

Built in April, 1944 to honour the valour of more than 1400 British, Indian and allied forces soldiers who martyred in the Second World War. The cemetery is present where the terraced lawns of the British Deputy Commissioner’s bungalow once stood.

Declared as a National Park in 1993, the Intanki Wildlife Sanctuary in Kohima is stretched in an area of more than 200 km sq. The park is nestled in lush greenery with amazing views of the valley ahead. You’ll come across various plant and animal species here.

Church of the bishop of the diocese of Kohima, the cathedral stands as the centre of the Catholic Church of Nagaland. The Japanese played a major role in the funding for the cathedral. The church was consecrated in January 1991.

Located to the north of the city, the state museum was established in 1970 and exhibits the unique Nagaland Heritage with articles of various tribes. The museum houses a rare collection of 16 tribes, which inhabit the state.

One of the most well-maintained zoo of the state, Kohima Zoo is perched upon a hill rendering mesmerising views of the city. The zoo is a renowned site for wildlife enthusiasts and bird-watchers.

The bungalow served as the residence of the administrative head of the Naga Hills District from colonial times until Nagaland gained statehood. The bungalow stands witness to some of the bloodiest battles of the World War II.

The sanctuary is spread in an area of more than 9 km sq and is designated as an Important Bird Area (IBA). The sanctuary is surrounded by thick forests and stunning views of the valley.
