Patan is a city in the northern part of Gujarat, India. It has a rich history and was an important centre of learning and culture in medieval India. Today, the city is famous for its well-preserved step wells, or vavs, which were built during this period. The Rani ki Vav, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a famous stepwell in Patan. It was built by Queen Udayamati in memory of her husband King Bhimdev I in the 11th century.
