Situated atop a hill and constructed by the rulers of Ratta Dynasty, the Yellur fort is a popular tourist attraction, especially among those looking to get out of the city and explore the district further.

Rajhansgad Yellur Fort

Constructed in the 13th century by Ratta dynasty rulers, this is one of the oldest forts in Karnataka. It acted as a jail when Mahatma Gandhi was imprisoned here during the freedom struggle.

Belgaum Fort

One of the city’s oldest temples, this Shiva shrine is managed by the Indian Army and was inaugurated in 1955. It is surrounded by a green, well-landscaped garden that has some benches to sit on.

Constructed in 1204 AD by Bichi Raja, a clergyman in the court of Ratta rulers, this a Jain temple that is constructed in the Chalukyan architectural style.

Kamal Basti

Located inside the cantonment area lies one of the oldest church in the area. The place is constructed out of Gokak pink stones along with Dandeli teak and mortar, and features Gothic architecture.
