Kalyan  is mostly known for providing a significant workforce to Mumbai, one of the most important cities in India. The city of Kalyan is situated on the Ulhas River banks located in Maharashtra's Thane district. More specifically, it is located in the Koncan division. The whole city is maintained by the municipal corporation of Kalyan-Dombivli. Here it should be mentioned that Kalyan is a subsection under the Thane district. Kalyan is one of the founding cities of the Metropolitan region of Mumbai. The Kalyan city and its associated township of Dombivli region together form the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation. In short, the municipal corporation is called KDMC. It is the 9th largest city among all the cities in Maharashtra and it is the 29th largest city among all the cities in India.

The Durgadi Fort is a place of historical significance and is located on the west of Kalyan. The Durgadi fort is located close to the Mumbai Agra road near several creeks on the small hill. The main entrance of the fort is known as Ganesh Darwaja. After entering you can easily visit the temple of Goddess Durga, located inside the fort. In the area, you may also find two Bastions and some remnants of the fort on the side of the creek.
