Sasan Gir

Located in Junagadh, Uparkot Fort dates back to the Maurya Empire and is constructed of granite and limestone. It also houses within it ancient Buddhist caves and an artificial lake.

Spanning over 1,400 square kilometres, Gir National Park is a protected habitat for the Asiatic Lion along with other species like leopards, wild boars and hyenas that reside here.

Built by Nawab Mahabat Khan II of Junagadh, Mahabat Maqbara is a royal palace-mausoleum with ornately carved arches, domes and towering minarets encircled by narrow spiral staircases.

A revered pilgrimage centre, Somnath Temple lies on the confluence of the Kapila, Hiran and Sarasvati rivers. It is believed to be the first of the 12 jyotirlinga shrines.

On the Hiran River, Kamleshwar Dam is located within the Gir National Park. The reservoir is home to a prolific bird and crocodile population.

Founded in 1947, Durbar Hall Museum showcases an extensive collection from the Mughal era including European glass lamps and chandeliers, palanquins, silver thrones and costumes. 

Also known as Junagadh Zoo, Sakkarbaug Zoological Garden spans 84 hectares and was established in 1863 with the intent to preserve and breed Asiatic lions.
