Tamil Nadu’s holy city for Hindus
It is widely acknowledged that Tiruvannamalai, a city in Tamil Nadu, is one of the state's holiest centres of worship. There are also several ashrams in the city, most of which are dedicated to the same god as this temple. The area is home to the well-known Annamalaiyar Temple, a Shiva temple sacred to Hindus. In Tiruvannamalai, the incarnation of Lord Shiva worshipped is Lord Arunachaleshwar, the god of fire. During the full moon, pilgrims flock to the temple at the base of the Arunachal Hills to participate in the sacred Girivalam ceremony.
