The Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore, also known as the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major, is one of the four major basilicas in Rome, Italy. It is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and is the largest church dedicated to Mary in the city of Rome. The basilica is also known as the "Salus Populi Romani" or the "Protectress of the Roman People.
