Ramanathaswamy Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and has religious significance for Hindus. According to tradition, Lord Ram established and worshipped the lingam in this temple before marching towards Lanka.

According to tradition, the Ramanathasyamy Temple was established and worshipped by Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, and Lord Lakshman. It was later expanded during the 12th century by the Pandavas Dynasty. Moreover, its principal shrine sanctum was renovated by Jeyaveera Cinkaiariyan and his successor Gunaveera Chinkaiariyan, the Jaffna Kingdom monarch.
