Rajmachi Fort is one of the oldest forts of India, known to have been built by the Satavahanas back in around 230 BC. It came to light as a popular fort during the kingdom of Shivaji Maharaj, who took it over from the then Bijapur ruler in the year 1657. During his rule, the Rajmachi Fort history has witnessed various constructions and extensions that strengthened its build, and was also fortified. Between 1704 and 1705, it fell to the Mughals and later in the 19th century, became a part of the British government. It also has a few Buddhist caves dating back to the 200 BC and has been an ancient protected monument after India received independence.
The architecture of this fort reflects the traditional Indian style of construction and is known for its gigantic walls, robust build and some secret gateways. The complexes inside the fort have ruined architecture and have a natural water catchment.
