Murud Janjira fort was a small wooden structure built by a Koli chief in the late 15th Century. Later, the fort was restructured by Malik Ambar, the Abyssinian Siddi regent of the Ahmednagar kings. The fort served as a tower for the Siddis, who were intimidating commanders in the region.
