According to the Hindu epics, the divine serpent Vasuki and other serpents took refuge under Subramanya when threatened by Garuda. Two poojas, including the Ashlesha Bali Puja and Sarpa Dosha Parihara, are performed here to seek protection from black snakes and remove the curse associated with the snake god, respectively.
The temple was built using a Dravidian architectural style. It is complemented by the proximity to the lush and green forests of Nagarhole, which will allow you to experience a perfect spiritual retreat. Moreover, this temple is situated near the Kukke Subramanya Wildlife Sanctuary, making it a place for devotees and nature lovers. Legend says that Kukke Subramanya is amongst the seven sacred sites established by Bhagwan Parashuram. It is the same place where the divine serpent Vasuki took refuge to protect himself from Garuda, the celestial bird and vehicle of Lord Vishnu. Moreover, it is also believed that Kumaraswamy and his brother Lord Ganesha defeated the demon rulers Tarakasura and Surapadma near this temple. After the victory, Lord Kumaraswamy married Devasena (daughter of Indra Dev) at this place, which was blessed with divine energy by many deities.
