About Chandni Chowk History

Emperor Shah Jahan built the Chandni Chowk in the 17th century. It was originally designed as a square chowk featuring a pool at its centre. The pool was filled with water reflecting the moonlight. Hence, it was named Chandni Chowk. Over the centuries, this market has been the heart of Mughal Delhi, which attracts merchants from across the world. This market has faced subsequent damage during the 1857 colonial era. After that, Chandni Chowk evolved and became a thriving colonial centre and showcased Delhi's rich and diverse heritage.
