The followers of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, including Mughal King Humayun, built this dargah after his death in 1236 AD, and it became a popular pilgrimage site. Sultan Ghiyasuddin Khilji of Malwa built the main tomb in the shrine in the 15th century. Later, Mughal emperors like Akbar, Jahangir, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb expanded and beautified the dargah by featuring it with gates, mosques, and courtyards.
