Managed and owned by Italian Navy, this museum preserves the rich maritime historic collections of Venice. A wide display of model ships, captain portraits, Venetian vessels and other related artefacts are spread across 42 rooms.

Don’t miss the spectacular 19th century boat, Scalé Reale, which was often used by King Vittorio Emanuele to reach Piazza San Marco. Some of the rooms in the museum are dedicated to gondola and the history related to it. A five-storey building, the museum is a must-visit for all those who have interest in marine studies.

The only exception that this museum has in Venice is that it is open for public view only in mornings. At the entrance, it has a marble monument by Antonio Canova and as you go further, you would see cannons, relief maps, torpedo, diving equipment and a unique folding boat which was used on the Hungarian submarines. The museum charge a very nominal fee, proceeds of which are further donated to a naval orphanage.

  • Opening Closing Time 8:45 am to 1:30 pm

  • Entrance Fee €1.55
